Code with Minecraft (For Kids 6+)

According to the Irish Times, computer programming will become a ‘highly prized’ skill in the very near future. Right now, there is already a serious shortage of skilled computer programmers in the industry the world over. Finding highly skilled developers is a tricky business. Particularly in an industry that was non existent 3 decades ago and did not take off until the 80’/90’s. Most developers in todays industry stem mostly from the science/math and even gaming interests.

Getting young people today interested in programming is still very challenging. Therefore, to be able to combine one of the largest and most creative games with programming, could become a catalyst for younger kids to become interested in programming much sooner and help meet the needs of the industry in the future.

Jeb from Minecraft explains

Minecraft/Microsoft have teamed up with code.org to provide a Scratch’esque style learning environment to give the user the fundamental concepts in programming.  Your kids or you will enjoy the tasks as each one gets incrementally more challenging, with all the sounds, and characters in the sandbox game. There’s lots of learning and fun to be had.

So what are you waiting for? Get over to Code with Minecraft and have some fun. 🙂
